A person who laced sweets with tranquilliser and gave them to children at a summer program in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two children who were nine and 10.

The accused was detained after eight children and an older person fell ill at the facility in mid-summer.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

However, he disputed a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

The accused was remanded in custody prior to a further hearing on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She said his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.

The man played a "treat game" with the children, the legal counsel said, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had played this game with the boys "over an extended period", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.

She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had suspicions in July 2025.

The prosecutor added: "This year his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, justifiably.

"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC said materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his stepson notified the law enforcement about his worries.

She stated Ruben proceeded to play the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that stage," she stated further.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.

The legal representative explained the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the stepson notified the authorities once more.

She stated Ruben then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five children.
